This portrait is of my sister-in-law, Amparo, who emigrated to Australia several years ago and recently passed her Australian Citizenship test. Originally from Colombia, she grew up in the remote mountains where her mother and sisters still live on a farm. As a young woman, life in Colombia became increasingly dangerous, leading her to seek new opportunities in Australia.

Initially trained in graphic design, Amparo has since dedicated herself to early childhood development, where she is deeply valued by both her colleagues and the children she nurtures. She is a woman of remarkable warmth, intelligence, and resilience—qualities that have allowed her to embrace a new life with unwavering determination. Beyond her profession, she is also a talented maker and restorer of old furniture, a passionate gardener, and a skilled seamstress.

This painting is an attempt to capture both her gentleness and her strength—a quiet yet powerful presence that defines who she is. It is a tribute to her journey, her adaptability, and the love she brings to those around her as a wife, sister, and friend.
